With millions of people unemployed, a stagnating housing market, and small businesses looking to conserve cash, we thought it was an appropriate time to give “our take.” It’s bad; we’re not denying that, and no one knows when it’s going to get better. However, we here at Jobvana.com, know that it’s going to be the hardworking business owners and services providers that are going to see us through this time and be the catalyst to get the economy going again. Small businesses and the self-employed have it tough, but it will be these people that are able to stick it out and continue to provide great service while larger corporations fade away. Corporations can be efficient and provide good deals, but when times get tough, it is individuals and small businesses that provide quality, trust and a stable community. The economy will turn around, and we will all come out of this stronger, but it won’t be because of banks, credit markets or bailouts – it will be from real people working real hard. We have a right to work. We have a right to better our situation. When we need a job, we can make a job. When we become unemployed, we can become self-employed. We are getting back to our roots of individual self accomplishments, and capitalism fueled by providing quality services and products with a face, integrity, and hard-work. It’s hard-work that drives our economy – good, solid hard-work. And it’s our job here at Jobvana.com to help eliminate some of the start-up barriers and help you connect with buyers and sellers. We’re not like the other sites focused on networking for the sake of networking; we don’t clutter your experience with content for the sake of content, but rather, we provide you the tools and web-presence necessary to assist you in marketing your skills. You work hard, and you provide a service or product you love to others – we’re here to help you share your passions and to give you tools so that your hard-work yields more.
Word of mouth referrals is the fuel that drives small business. Jobvana makes it easy for you to facilitate those relationships online and for those connections to spread the word about you and your services.
Your past customers, colleagues and friends are your best source of referrals and your best chance for growth as a small business. When you perform well, they tell others. Bring those contacts online and let them rave about you, tell their friends, and connect you with new, valuable referrals.
Jobvana has added a tool to make it easy to share your profile, skills and Jobvana community with the people you already know. By going to the add contacts tab in your MyAdmin section you can instantly find people you know who are already on Jobvana and/or send invites using your existing address books from Outlook, Yahoo, Gmail, MSN and others.
Every state, region and city now has their own page that highlights the service providers in that area as well as help wanted ads from people looking for service providers in that region.
You can navigate to any of these pages by clicking "cities" in the header at the top of your screen, or you can type in jobvana.com/"the state you want". For example, check out www.jobvana.com/washington .
Please let us know how we can continue to build these pages to make them more useful for you.
You can share pictures, videos, websites and news articles by clicking on the media icon in the left column of your MyAdmin page.
You can use this functionality to advertise your skills, show work you’ve done, educate your customers and be a resource for your contacts and other browsers. Check out www.jobvana.com/nathancasey/media to see how I’ve started to use it.
Its easy to use, looks great and will enable you to add valuable content to your Jobvana Homepage.
We have put up an exciting new tool that will increase your search-ability and marketability on major search engines. It also makes it easier for you to use your profile as your homepage by giving you a web address that's easy to remember and easy to share with others. By going to your MyAdmin section and selecting the "Edit my profile" link under the "Profile" section, you will find a tab labeled "URL" - here you can change the web address of your Jobvana profile to any name you want. For instance, I changed mine to www.jobvana.com/nathancasey. You can put in your service name, description or your personal name - whatever you think will be useful for you and help others find you. Once this is setup you can also direct people to the specific tabs on your profile, for instance, when I want to read up on PGA Tour professional Ryan Moore's blog, I know I can just go straight to www.jobvana.com/ryanmoore/blog.
Don't be hidden - make it easier for people to find you and the services you have to offer. But remember to choose wisely - once you select a new URL, it cannot be undone. For safety and stability purposes, once you choose a new URL, it will be the home of your profile forever.
Every profile now has a Billboard where you can leave notes, comments and reviews for your contacts. This feature is similar to the Wall used on Facebook or Comments used on MySpace. Messages you leave on people's billboards are visible to everyone, so you can use it to let the world know how great a person or service provider your contact is. Send thank you letters, notes of encouragement, new business ideas, suggestions and recommendation to your contacts. This is a great way for businesses and service providers to interact with their customers and give their friends and customers a voice.
You can manage, save and delete the messages on your billboard using the "Manage Billboard" link in the left column of your MyAdmin section.
Feel free to drop by and leave me a note: http://www.jobvana.com/nathancasey/billboard
Today, we announced our sponsor deal with PGA Tour Professional Ryan Moore. As part of the sponsor deal, Ryan will host his official website on Jobvana.com, contribute to Jobvana marketing materials and will wear the Jobvana logo while playing on tour.
Early in what is sure to be a very promising career, Ryan has already accomplished many impressive feats, including completing the best amateur season in the history of golf in 2004 when he won the U.S. Amateur, the Western Amateur, the U.S. Amateur Public Links (also won in 2002) and the NCAA individual championship in the same year. In 2006, Ryan became the first player since Tiger Woods to earn a spot on the PGA Tour without having to go through Qualifying School. And today, he remains one of the greatest ball strikers on tour.
We're thrilled to have Ryan golfing for us. Ryan's tenacity, creativity, innovation and achievement are perfectly in line with Jobvana ideals. His passion for what he does shines through his competitive spirit and highlights his amazing talents.
Keep track of Ryan's progress on tour by reading his personal blog at www.jobvana.com/RyanMoore/. Ryan is also starring in the latest Jobvana commercials that can be seen at www.jobvana.com/RyanMoore/, or on Jobvana's YouTube Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/Jobvana.
You will notice that your profile now has a blog attached to it - you can create, edit and delete blogs from your admin panel on the left side of the "My Admin" page. Blogs are a great way for you to connect with the people that view your profile. It gives readers a good sense of who you are and a deeper understanding of your personality and experiences that might not come through as easily in the rest of your profile.
You will find the blog to be an amazing way to generate traffic to your profile, increase your search-ability in Google, Yahoo and other search engines, and foster deeper - more personal - relationships with your contacts.
